Goodnight Kids: Bedtime Poetry (Excerpt)

“Like Ice Cream With Sprinkles”

There once was an old woman…
with gray hair and wrinkles...
who had a chat with a young girl...
eating ice cream with sprinkles.
The old woman told the young girl…
“laugh until you can’t breathe.
Play every day of your youth…
until the day your youth leaves.
Run as fast as you can through the pile of autumn leaves.
Make as many snowmen as your hands can roll…
as the snow collects on bare trees.
Enjoy the movie nights with family...
and the excitement of Christmas.
Remember the smell of Thanksgiving…
and the sink full of dishes.
Never think about money...
you’ll have time when you’re older to be stressed.
Sleep late in the summers.
No one telling you “you’re late” or “get dressed”
Take your time being young.
Never wish to be older...
because your youth is just like that...
ice cream with sprinkles...
you’ll want more when it’s over.
